The Cherry Orchard

Play by Anton Chekhov

The Cherry Orchard is the ironic portrait of a declining social group in pre-revolutionary Russia. The space is inhabited by ordinary creatures, sometimes ridiculous and incoherent. They carry an inexorable fatality: the passing of time and its inescapable persistence. The inability of an aristocratic class to adapt to new social and personal responsibilities, chronic students unable to take their own words into action and ex-slaves who refuse to be released. They are all overwhelmed by the times that change without their perception.
