Witkacy / Two-Headed Calf

From the writings of Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz
Directed by Natalia Korczakowska

Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, commonly known as Witkacy, was a Polish playwright, painter, novelist, philosopher, and avant-garde artist. WITKACY / Two-Headed Calf emerged from an ongoing, multi-year collaboration between CalArts Center for New Performance and Studio Teatrgaleria. In this project, we delve into Witkacy’s work, set against the backdrop of California’s vast and untamed nature. The plot unfolds through the journey of a neurotic boy and his family as they travel from New Guinea to Sydney and ultimately into the desert. Witkacy believed that nature could be a source of metaphysical experience, offering a chance to protect our individuality from the soulless social machine of Western civilization.
